In early 2015 there has been continuing bi-partisan County action to  identify and pursue issues of governmental fraud, waste, misconduct and abuse. This was seen clearly on March 25 when at the behest of the new County Executive the County Freeholders unanimously adopted an ordinance with administrative code changes that included the creation of a new Inspector General position in the County Law Department (see text below).  This welcome action stands in stark contrast to key events in the first decade of the century as was symbolized by the April 16, 2015 conviction on a pattern of racketeering of former Bergen Democratic Committee chair Joe Ferriero for his 2007-2009 hidden kick-back scheme to benefit from municipal adoption – urged by Ferriero – of contracts with  Nutley-based C-3 corporation. For the Record’s account of that conviction click here

BGR President Chuck Powers attended the Freeholder meeting at which the new Inspector General position was created on March 25 and his comments about the significance of the Freeholders’ impending action and what it promises in terms of improved County governance can be seen in the video to which you can click here
